"Educating the youth across our global community"

 

  Our mission is to educate the youth across our global community.

With the goal to Uplift "at-risk" Neighborhood Students, so that one day those students can uplift their families and their global communities.

The Project began with Palisia Stallworth organizing a group of students to reverse the inequalities in the education system by starting a tutoring/mentoring initiative at Bruce Monroe Elementary in Washington DC.

 

Project UNS Goals for 2012:

  • Partner with for 21st Century Community Learning Center  recipients at 4 site locations in DC.
  • Leverage our Federal funding with Private dollars to create an unmatched afterschool program within the District.
  • Team  UNS will continue to serve by committing 1000 hours to community service.
  • Strive to Fund Five Scholarships to "at-risk" youths.
  • Team UNS will continue to build the morale of disadvantaged youths through mentoring programs and character developing workshops.
  • Become a member of the CFC to expand our Development efforts.
  • Increase program participation by 25% 
  • Create inroads with many CBO's in DC who share or compliment our mission who can provide wrap around services and after school support to students across the board

Join Team UNS in our quest for Health & Fitness. We have partnered with Dr. Ian Smith, from VH1’s
Celebrity Fit
Club by participating in the The 50 Million Pound Challenge. The Fifty Pound Challenge is a program designed to promote healthy living through exercise and healthy diets. We are encouraging everyone to visit the web site and join our team:

This challenge is free of cost.  Join our team and receive Health & Fitness tips, Nutrition Plans, and a detailed chart showcasing your weight loss. We look forward to your participation in this fun, free and rewarding challenge.

Team UNS has lost 237 pounds so far!

Highlights of 2011:
 

  • Partnered with several DC Public Charter Schools providing  Consulting Services  in Out of School Time Programs
  • Continue toIncrease our Annual Budget by 225% leveraging every penny with Federal, Municipal, and Private contributions
  • Partnered with the Turkey Thicket Recreational Center in order to create an alliance with the students  and organizers of the community, and a location to host programs.
  • Partnered with Howard University  to provide qualified mentors for existing programs.
  • Partnered with YouthBuild Public Charter School hosting summer ESL and 1-on1 GED preperation sessions.
  • Partnered with Howard Road Academy where our President seved as the Director of the 21st Century Community Learning Center and was able to increace participation by 50%, in addition all 21Century Participants all made grade level and had impressive school attendance.

                                                                Special thanks to last summers tutors who laid the foundation for our continued success.  This program was managed and implemented by Cherrelle Swain's phenominal leadership qualities. In addition to Ms. Swain's extraordinary leadership skills she had an equally amazing staff assisting as we continue the mission of ProjectUNS.org, in no particular order,  Hakim Wiggins, , Bob Villaflor, Meridian Hill Hall Community Director, Youthbuild Public Charter School Executive Management, and all other stakeholders.  Thank you for all that you do, none of this would have been possible without you.
